An intriguing diptych painting by a yet to be identfied artist, executed with strong stylistic characteristics, a restrained and bold palette and a focus on shape and composition.
The painting consists of a number of deconstructed figures and still life forms, incorporating elements of Cubism and Abstract Expressionism.
The paintings are curiously signed and possibly dated on the front, verso and also on the canvas bars themselves with 'G-1980-12', followed by a signature. The canvases are also marked with numbers, letters and notes on orientation and order.
Either they were created by an artist with a strong sense of order, or perhaps they hint at some greater level of importance, catalogued for an art institution or exhibition. A fine painting and one for the art sleuths...
