ceremonial shell decorated shield
Tikar tribe
Cameroon
Wood and cowrie shells
Height (including stand) 61.5 cm
A hand-carved decorative shield inspired by the traditional tribal weaponry of the Tikar tribe in Cameroon.
Carved from a single piece of hardwood with the face of the shield adorned with genuine cowrie shells, arranged in a captivating array of floral motifs around a central shell medallion, this tabletop sculpture beautifully bridges the gap between historical African artifact and high-end contemporary design.
