The chair frames have a towering architectural backrests incorporating finely turned columnar uprights and matching turned legs and H-shaped stretchers.
This style of furniture was popularised in Northern Italy during the late 19th century, heavily influenced by cabinetmakers like Ferdinando Polgiani.
